Painting of Ocean Scene with Boat
by Stewart McKay

Stewart is an elected artist member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and a regular exhibitor. He is an Honours graduate of Victoria University and is currently studying art history for the Graduate Diploma of Arts from the university. He also studied fine arts/painting at the Prahran College of Advanced Education (now the Victorian College of the Arts.) He has worked as a full-time artist when the new millennium coincided with the sale of his Wellington business.

Stewart has curated solo exhibitions in Upper Hutt, Wellington, and Nelson Bays and on the Kapiti Coast. These have included "Detours & Dreams, "Broken Images" and "Undiscovered Colours." Solo 24 in 2007 was Stewart's second Going Solo at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.

In November 2004 Stewart was awarded a merit prize for Best Representation of the Kapiti Coast for his work "Rua Ngahuru Ma Rima" In November 2007 he won the Gordon Harris/New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts Inaugural Award for work based on a Wellington theme. His painting "Sea Lion" was judged pick of the show out of 296 works. The judge commented "Sea Lion was rendered in a nice painterly approach, not too fussy or worked over. It's nice to see someone use colour boldly and express themselves."

Painting of River Scene, Roaring Meg in Otaki, with Keruru
by George Thompson

George is a fulltime artist working from his home studio on the Kapiti coast. He has lived here most of his life.

He is a member of;

Watercolour New Zealand
The Academy of Fine Arts
And several artists collectives

George paints in most mediums and in a style which is generally impressionist. The discipline of drawing is an enduring interest and the challenge of recording the everchanging Wellington-scape provides endless subject material.

George's work can be viewed at Stewart McKay's gallery at Waikanae Beach and the Kiwi Art house in Cuba Street Wellington.
